Carl “DiMag” DePhillip Baseball Collection - Absolute KIKO Auction

Carl DePhillipo, affectionately known as “DiMag” after his childhood idol Joe DiMaggio, was a beloved figure in Cleveland sports culture. A retired railroad worker and longtime steelworker, Carl devoted much of his life to collecting baseball memorabilia and assisting players at Cleveland Municipal Stadium. Despite never being on the official payroll of the Cleveland Indians or Browns, he was a constant presence behind the scenes, running errands, managing equipment, and offering unwavering support.

DePhillipo’s passion for baseball and generosity earned him friendships with numerous legends, including Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Billy Martin, Roger Clemmens, Rod Carew and George Brett. His Brook Park basement became a mini “Hall of Fame,” filled with autographed bats, balls, jerseys, and personal gifts from players—many of whom sought him out for his loyalty and warmth.

He began helping out at the stadium as a boy and was even present the day Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak ended in 1941. Known for his humility and enthusiasm, DiMag never charged for his services and was admired for his selfless dedication. In return for his friendship, loyalty and willingness to help, DiMag accepted personalized gifts from ball players such as balls, bats, photos and parts of uniforms.

DiMag’s personalized gifts turned into a very impressive collection over the past 80 years. His remarkable collection and deep relationships with sports icons made him a cherished local legend. Despite his low profile, his impact was lasting—his story is one of passion, friendship, and community spirit.

The DiMag collection includes 2,000 personalized sports items and is set to hit the auction podium starting August 2025. The auction will be conducted by Nathaniel Ray and Colton Kiko of KIKO Auctioneers, located in NE Ohio. The abundant collection will be sorted and sold in multiple absolute auctions between August and October 2025. Online bidding and shipping will be available.
