LOG CABIN HISTORY

The log cabin was built in the early 1800s by the founders of Mooresville, which later became known as Floyd Knobs in Southern Indiana.  It stood atop the hills off State Road 150, on what was formerly Old Vincennes Trail and, before that, Black Diamond Trail.  This unique property was once a toll house, collecting tolls from stagecoaches and other vehicles, and the house was also used as an inn where travelers could get a hot meal and a little rest before continuing their journey.

Edward and Christine Ruoff purchased the cabin in 1936 from Mr. Moore, a descendant of the original owner who was living in Louisville, KY. The Ruoffs dismantled the building, marked each log carefully, had it moved, and rebuilt it on its present site on Green Valley Road.

The owner, Les Holstner, has been the latest caretaker of the cabin, owning the property since 1977.
